FT FlashTranslate

Before your first conversation

A few helpful answers.

Here is what to expect when you create or join a FlashTranslate room.

What is FlashTranslate?

FlashTranslate is a browser-based translation app for a shared conversation. Spoken messages are transcribed, translated, and read aloud to the other participant. Typed messages are translated in the chat.

How do the languages work?

The creator picks two languages for the room. Each participant chooses one of those languages for both speaking and listening. You can switch your own choice during the conversation. To use another language pair, create a new room.

Is there a free option?

Yes. Free rooms start with five minutes of conversation time by default. Check the room timer for your remaining time and the purchase options for current prices. The optional product demo does not use conversation time or grant extra minutes.

Do I need a microphone?

Only for speaking. You can enter the room and use typed chat without microphone access. For voice, tap Start conversation and allow your browser to use the microphone. Make sure speaker output is not muted if you want to hear the other person’s translation.

Do I have to watch an advertisement?

No. The current product preview is optional, and you can enter or join a free room without playing it. Promotional content is labeled and kept separate from conversation controls.

What happens to my speech?

Voice translation sends audio to OpenAI for transcription and speech processing. Messages and participant settings also pass through the FlashTranslate service so they can be delivered to the room. Do not share sensitive information unless you are comfortable with that processing. See the terms for further service information.

Does it work offline or guarantee accurate translations?

No. An internet connection is required, and AI translation can make errors. Speak clearly, take turns, and confirm important details. Use a qualified interpreter for situations that require professional interpreting.
